Those evil Republicans...

... and their stoopid hypocrisy.  A friend states: "So next week, the very conservative Supreme Court will rule that Social Security is unconstitutional... b/c it will rule that the individual mandate of the Affordable Care Act is unconstituional (sic) ... What other highly popular eighty-year-old program has an individual mandate?"

What's the difference between a 'tax' (where you pay the government and receive 'public goods') and the government compelling you to enter into a transaction with another private party, or pay a penalty and receive no goods or services. Mr. Obama's 'single payer' dream is a better comparison to social security, and it would not be unconstitutional. Unfortunately, he didn't have the votes for that one, so he settled for "we have to pass it to see what's in it".

Someone else -- I don't recall the name -- brushed aside the religious objections to free contraceptives and abortifacients by stating that these are generally mandatory in New York, and that religious institutions didn't seem to have a problem with it there.
I mean, where the civilized people are.
